Prediction of turbulent flow in curved pipes
A finite-difference procedure is employed to predict the development of turbulent flow in curved pipes. The turbulence model used involves the solution of two differential equations, one for the kinetic energy of the turbulence and the other for its dissipation rate. The predicted total-velocity contours for the developing flow in a 180’ bend are compared with the experimental data. Predictions...
متن کاملPipes under Internal Pressure and Bending
This article covers the general behaviour of a straight uniform pipe, with built-in open ends, subject to internal pressure and in plane bending or curvature. It is intended as a summary of the basic equations driving the unintuitive phenomena of bending and instability of pipes under internal pressure. The analysis covers in addition the investigation of opposite pressure stabilisation effects...
متن کاملLarge bending deformations of pressurized curved tubes
In this paper, the problem of large pure bending deformations of membrane is considered. The membrane is a sector of torus with a closed cross-section. This membrane is called a curved tube for short. We consider the homogenous, incompressible, isotropic and hyperelastic material. The external load is a constant pressure and bending couples acting at the edges. The equilibrium equations reduce ...
متن کاملFtsZ Constriction Force - Curved Protofilaments Bending Membranes.
FtsZ assembles in vitro into protofilaments (pfs) that are one subunit thick and ~50 subunits long. In vivo these pfs assemble further into the Z ring, which, along with accessory division proteins, constricts to divide the cell. We have reconstituted Z rings in liposomes in vitro, using pure FtsZ that was modified with a membrane targeting sequence to directly bind the membrane. This FtsZ-mts ...
متن کاملNumerical approximation of viscoelastic Oldroyd-B flows in curved pipes
The aim of this paper is to study a finite element numerical approximation of steady flows of an incompressible viscoelastic Oldroyd-B fluid in curved pipes of arbitrary cross-section and curvature ratio. Using rectangular toroidal coordinates, existence and uniqueness of approximated solutions are proved as well as a priori error estimates, under a natural restriction on the pipe curvature ratio.
